Ello Fella's... Shall we chat?
Ello Fella's. Been a while huh.
Well, I actually ran out of ideas to write about, do I have one now?
no.. no I don't.
So, I am going to make it up as I go... Bare with me.
Would you believe I don't actually read that often. I know.. A writer that doesn't read, kind of weird right? I think so.
I've been forcing myself to read before bed everyday. Of course: I'm sort of cheating... I've been reading 'Skullduggery Pleasant Kingdom the Wicked' by Derek Landy, extraordinary book, by an extraordinarily funny man.
It's considered cheating because I have already read it, therefore not learning anything new about writing which makes me a bit of twat in writing, and yes... I will read others.. but this one is really good, and he's writing more. In my defense I have to catch up so I can read his new ones.... So there!
When it comes to characters and me I love watching shows: lately I've been watching 'Wizards' by Guillermo Del Toro, a great lad. I've already finished it, but couldn't help but watch again, even though one of the characters (Steve Palchuk) annoys the crap out of me... (I'll try not to spoil anything)
But I adore the main character: Hisirdoux Casperan, I love how the voice actor
(Colin O'Donoghue) makes his voice deeper and well more mature later on, changing it from what it was in the beginning when he was 'younger'. I like it way more than I thought I would. The character design is magnificent, and I am enthralled by the design of their garments. I've always had trouble designing different clothing choices for my different characters, but "Wizards' gives me great inspiration.
I do this odd thing where I have to always have a 'game' in mind.
(I call it game because I play it like a game)
This game is more of a story that I tell myself as a sort of entertainment. Sometimes I rely on it.. Maybe a little too much.
But, theses stories are things I constantly think about, always building on it, seeing how I can make it better, and most times it becomes an actual valid story for a book for the future in my writing career.
Anyway: after I watch something and I become a tad bit obsessed with it, I almost have to create a story with the same premise, but not steal it: more or less practice with it, if you know what mean. I love Wizards just in general: I adore making characters with great potential and magic at their very fingertips, so I have now created a new story to keep myself distracted when I'm alone, or bored, or even just trying to sleep. (works very well)
This new story is about young wizard's apprentice (like Douxi- Main character's nickname), and does have a rather rude master (Like Merlin), but with different personalities, and a different kind of magic.
The fun thing about magic is you can design it anyway you like, how it behaves, who can use it, why is it used, and what can it do. Honestly, it's great fun!
For my new story I am going make it almost like it has a personality of its own, and that a wizard must learn to work with it and not against it. Also, they must not try and control it. In my new world: Magic is extremely dangerous, and can kill you if you battle it for too long.
Oh! I new idea just popped into my head! What if there's bad magic, I mean there's always bad magic, but what if it could take control if you wish you take control of magic, and could corrupt anyone, even the purest of souls. This could be an interesting arc of the story.
My main character's name is: Alator, or Al for short. I haven't decided what his master's name is yet: I kind of want to name him Cadgar like Cadgar from WOW ('World of Warcraft'), I'll have to give him relevance in he story, so he's not just some obstacle for Al to pass, and an actual valid character for the story.
I'm not sure if I want to make them human, I have also been wanting to create this other story about Tailens (a creature i created, part animal, part human), so I could mash those together if I wish. I want to make a female character, and maybe his familiar is female which could be a small story in there where the familiar has been there for Alator for years, and then this other girl comes in and seems to pry them a part maybe? Heck, she could be actually evil, love those plot twists! Anywho, the familiar could not trust this new girl.. could add extra.
Now I need a story... Not sure about that part. Obviously there has to be highs and lows throughout, maybe he disappoints his master, or theres a great evil after his master and he gets in the way making whatever this great evil will be want him dead too. The great evil could be people that the master has wronged in the past, give them a good reason for revenge in which they seek?
Maybe, they have a bigger plan in place, and killing, or capturing Al's master is only a cog to help the clock turn..? I think I've got something going here... Wouldn't you say?
Coming up with what the master did to these lads must be big enough, and only aimed at them for the big baddies to come after him with a good reason. Maybe, I could twist it around on the master, make what he did to the badguys a bad choice, and not what a good person would do. They could be old friends that he betrayed to save others possibly? Or maybe, he assumed wrong that they could have been on the wrong side or plotting against him the whole time when they're not?
Good ideas... Good ideas everywhere....
But thats something we must remember: no idea is bad when it comes to creating a story. Everything started out as an idea, even the biggest stories out there.
There will always be those who will disagree with you ideas, but not letting them get in your way is the biggest lesson I have learned. Something I must learn is to not get upset over someone else's opinion on a story that I have working on for hours. It doesn't matter, believe it or not: the world will keep turning, and that idea is still yours.
I love making stories, 'cause you can mish mash, and go nuts with it, and if you don't like it, trash it and make another, or tweak it till you do like it. The wonders of the minds is it is never limited.
Thanks for reading as always. Hopefully you didn't nod off whilst reading.
Ba bye!
