Meet Stanule Scrutinous...
Ello everyone, it's been a bit hasn't it. To say the least: I've been busy with some rather large developments in my life, that I am currently dealing with, and.. well... it was the weekend.
Anywho, in this post I shall be introducing you to Stanule Scrutinous, another character of mine, one of the stranger ones. He is one of my favorites as well, would be my absolute favorite if Devo and Alex didn't exist. Anyway, enough about that:
This is Stanule.
At first look he looks like an ordinary human man, but there you would be wrong. He is everything but a man, well can be everything and a man.
Stanule is a shapeshifter, created as an experiment within a laboratory in hope to create an adaptive system for humans, but during the process of the creation: the experiment adapted to the situation, making itself energy with the ability to perceive things.

It became sentient.
The being's mind latched onto anything in sight, taking in everything it could to learn and adapt to a situation. At first, it was just a ball of floating energy, but over a few moments: it learned it could change itself into anything that it could think of.
When it/he first properly awoke, the laboratory was in chaos, scientists dead or vanished. Red lights blurred, and sirens screamed. Breaking the glass it/he escaped its little capsule. Floating around, it observed the area, the dead, and listened to the odd sounds it was for the first time ever hearing. Like a dot to dot puzzle, it had to guess the situation. From the words that were written across other capsules and doors, it couldn't quite yet read: it was pretty confusing for the being.

On its way out, it heard an odd sound that made it pause for no apparent reason. It searched the halls, following the sound until it reached a room with a very big chubby baby crying on a cold metal bench.
Now, of course to Stanule at the time it just looked like a loud wobbly mass. But, whenever Stanule went to leave it, it would make that horrid sound again. So, it decided to take the loud mass with it, and out they went into the world.
The world is big, crazy, and odd. It took many, many years to learn what it meant to live on such a planet. Changing its form many times, copying different things to see what reactions it got. At first the beings of the world were afraid of it and there was a lot of screaming involved and a very confused creature. After a bit, it learned that Humans seemed to be the dominate species on the planet, so it adopted the from of a human woman because the first human it ever saw was a female human.

It found the extra appendages rather confusing and was irritated that it didn't know what they were used for. (I'm sure you can guess which appendages I'm talking about ladies.)
Anyway, it went with a human male instead. It had to change many things, not just how it looked, but how it moved. Apparently walking with your eyes is considered a tad bit weird. So, it learned to walk on the two feet it grew for itself, and used its hands to hold items. Before when it was just a ball of energy, a piece of itself would just stretch over to an item, envelop it and then the item would just float along with him, but now it instead had to stretch a long arm and use fingers to curl around an item, apply pressure and then hold it that way. Now, for any other human: you wouldn't really realize the steps it took to pick something up, but for Stanule it took every step to learn how to grasp anything.

After many years, it swapped out different looks after seeing different humans, realizing it could adopt its own look, unique and different: it spent a long time changing things until it looked the way it wanted.
Right... Clothes... Apparently they're important in most countries.
So, once again it changed things, and instead of wearing clothes it just created its own clothes and design over its body.
(he doesn't like wearing clothes because they feel funny...)
Now, you're probably wondering what happened to the loud wobbly mass that Stanule had previously took with him at the beginning. Well, do not fret, the mass is fine. Actually, it became a little boy, and continued to grow with Stanule. Stanule had to take care of this creature, and doing that wasn't easy, after learning about books, it learned to read, then read.... a lot.
Books taught it how to take care of a child, but some of the instructions just caused more obstacles: like what did it mean by breast milk? What the heck was a breast? Chicken breast?
Ugh, it was very confusing for Stanule, so once again it went off and learned more and more. But, learning was not a very big problem for it for it actually enjoyed the process of learning, and expanding its mind.
After another while, it realized that communication was rather important between the humans and apparently to the child as well, so it learned how to speak...
How? You guessed it: books.
Also humans, it would listen to them, and eventually it created the components necessary to create a voice and then learned how to use it....
See... so.. many... steps..
The boy continued to grow, and overtime Stanule learned why the boy was in the laboratory like it, the boy was not normal from what it could tell from the other snot nosed boys that played in the mud. Now the boy was quite happy to play in mud given the chance, but he was big, like really really big for a five year old, and couldn't speak properly, actually unable to form words properly without a lot of practice. Also being able to pick up cars was an interesting development.
After figuring out that names were an important component to identify others, it named the child Poncho, because it was the only clothing that would fit over the boy. It then decided to name itself Stanule Scrutinous, because it couldn't decided between Stan or Nathaniel so it just mashed them together, and Scrutinous, well because it liked the word and its meaning. Also, it decided to refer to itself as a he now...
(Finally got there, it was getting really annoying remembering to type it instead of he throughout this entire thing.... my lord...)
Whew.. that's a lot... Almost done.
Okay.. so: Stanule has a name, and an identity to a point. He can speak, walk, and hold things. But, he had gotten himself in a considerable amount of trouble through his learning and realized his body wasn't all that equipped for defense of any kind, so he took precautions and shifted a very strong and hard layer beneath his skin making it harder for things to pierce it or break his bones.
After a while longer, a man found them and learned of Stanule's and Poncho's oddities. This man was named Atlas, the founder of an academy for oddities to make a place for themselves in the world, and use their 'gifts' (as he put it) to use.

Atlas: School for Hunters.
An academy that taught people willing to learn how to capture and exterminate demons. Stanule and Poncho learned that there were many others like themselves.. well not exactly like them: they were one of a kind, but similar to them as in that they were not human. Also, Demons existed, so yay.
Stanule was absolutely enthralled by the skill of killing demons, and by the demons themselves. Creatures of hell created to kill angels, and angels created oddities to kill demons as the stories told.
Poncho was 155 years old when they joined, but didn't seem to age, but was very big and round, with a thick hide, super strength and very dangerous, but he was naturally a gentle giant, but still followed Stanule into the Demon Hunting business. After about a year in the academy, Stanule and Poncho became the best Demon hunters in the entire team. With their skills, it was hard not to be.
Even with a hundred and fifty-five years, Stanule was still odd. The way he talked, the way he held himself. I would even say he is exhilarating.
So, Poncho and Stanule travel the world and kill demons for a living, and for Stanule: it's entertainment.
Whew, that's about everything on Stanule that doesn't give too much spoilers for my Demon Hunters book. I'm really happy with Stanule and Poncho, that drawing was actually the 3rd drawing I've done of him, the others are of him and how he will look in Demon Hunters: just younger really.
Tomorrows blog will be about my Demons and my idea for them- that will be interesting...
Thank you for reading even if you skimmed through it, great fun writing these.. not the coming up with the ideas of what to write about part though, that's not as fun...
Ba bye!
