Meet my most treasured characters that grew up with me
Hullo fella's!
I wanted to share with you my absolute most favorite characters I have ever created!
Devo and Alex. (Their full names are Devonian Jake Jackheart, and Alexander Stanley Ferrenski.)
Now, I first created these dude's when I was twelve years old. I've been making characters as long as I can remember, but never to the same intensity I hold for my most treasured boys.
Also, these guys will have their own entire series together. Big, complicated story I've been working on and am still working on since... well twelve years old.. as I said.. earlier..
Anyway! As I was saying: Devo and Alex are my most developed characters that I have, I know them both like the back of my hand, mostly Alex over Devo, but that's only because Alex is like my dream boyfriend in a way... also my favorite kind of character:
Over confident, funny, courageous, and compassionate. Oh, and very sarcastic.

Devo on the other hand is a little sad in a way, serious, and careful in pretty much every situation.
He isn't as impressionable as Alex, and pretty much his complete opposite. While Alex wears bright colors, Devo wears black, white and grey and he also has black hair- Alex is a Blondie.
Devo is more likely to follow the rules unlike Alex, and he's way more vicious on the battle field.
Now, Devo and Alex are not human. Alex is a Kitsune, and in my book I have my own take on their race. He has his kitsune form where he has two fox ears that appear on top of his head and a tail.. But he actually has two...
One of my takes on the Kitsune is they grow a tail for every thousand years they live until they nine tails, but they can live far longer than just nine thousand years... you know, if they eat healthy, and keep themselves well kept, a lot like a human actually, if we lived that long that is.
Anyway again. Alex has two tails suggesting he has lived two thousand years right?
Wrong!
Anyway again. Alex has two tails suggesting he has lived two thousand years right?
Wrong!
Alex is only eighteen years old and has only lived eighteen years since birth. That is possible because of another thing I created for the kitsune race to be able to do, but only the super powerful ones. Basically, if a kitsune is killed, if they're strong enough their soul leaves their body and travels for days, or months, or years. Searching for a compatible host that is still in the womb of a woman. Now the chances of this is very low and can take millions of years, that's why it isn't common for a kitsune to come back.
But the another interesting twist I made is when that kitsune does find a baby in the womb, they more or less take over that child's look. So when they're born they just look like every other baby, but when they grow, they end up looking exactly like the kitsune that found him or her. But, the child grows up as his or her own person, clueless of the other mind inside.
The kitsune within watches idle as the child grows until they are strong enough to take over. If a kitsune does enter a child: that child becomes a kitsune, but the amount of time that the other kitsune lived and as many tails as he or she had the child will have too once they unlock their kitsune form.

Pretty weird huh?
There is a lot more that goes into my Kitsunes, but there are a lot of legends about them and different perceptions, this is only my take on them. I don't want to offend anyone.

Next is Devo: problem with this, is I haven't actually figured out what to name his race. Unlike Alex's kind, I made up Devo's race completely. Thought it would be fun... It was in a way, but challenging. Devo can use smoke and shadows at his disposal. He is exceptionally dangerous, even when he can't control his powers. He can change parts of his body into smoke to avoid bullets, or anything really. But, all these powers come from the thing inside of him.
The Dämmerung. (Dusk in German):
This creature is made of smoke and shadows but is able to become solid. It resides within a host that is born with it. There is a lot of information that goes into his race, but I'm scared to write here because someone could steal it.. But hey, maybe you'll read my book when it comes out to find out more?
I thought I would show you guys the evolution of their drawings:
I thought I would show you guys the evolution of their drawings:
This is the first one I ever drew of them.
I was twelve at the time, so my art style was still growing, a bit like them over the years.
I know now it doesn't look all too pleasing, but back then I thought I was amazing, the whole rainbows out of my arse amazing! 😄
The first one I drew was Devo. I created a small story around him that was nothing like the story I have now, he didn't even have powers.
Then I decided he needed a friend, and Alex was born- his best friend! And that was the moment I created their incredible brotherhood from different mothers...hoods..?

Okay, this one was drawn when I was about thirteen I think. It was also when I started really developing their story, and their friendship grew stronger. It's also when their powers came to be, because just being human was too boring for me... Still is. That's why most of my characters are something else.. I also love drawing elf ears on characters..
ANYWAY that is beside the point!

As you can see in this picture they're a lot less chibi like.
(Chibi is a Japanese slang word describing something short. It
comes from the verb 禿びる, which means 'to wear out and become shorter'.
Chibi-debu is used to describe something or someone that is both short
and chubby)
They are, well longer, and Alex's hair has grown far crazier than previously. I liked big hair, what can I say.
Devo's hair is just as spiky as before, or maybe even spikier. Human's have always been a little hard for me to draw....
This is also where I decided to make them eighteen, instead of children. I still love this drawing even though it's not my style anymore, but I do look fondly over this as a cherished memory, and the beginning of my style of humans.
Few more years later:
Here I drew them when I was sixteen. Yes, a dramatic age difference.
Let's just say it took a while to build up the courage to draw them
again, they're so precious to me: I'm scared of messing them up. Devo's hair is just as spiky as before, or maybe even spikier. Human's have always been a little hard for me to draw....

Few more years later:
I decided to give them both their own pages to really expand on how they look and I started drawing.. bigger I guess you could say?
Here they both have bags, I have no idea why. I had a phase around bags I guess. But they do look cool and I do want ones like them, envious of my fictional characters... Not really a surprise.
Anywho, as you can see Alex's hair is as nuts, but is still kind of big, but now he's not wearing his hat, but holds it instead. With these pictures I could really work on different expressions, and that was a time in my life where I realized people can do a little more than just smile and stare forward like freaking Dora the Explorer... Dear god, she's creepy..
But, yea.. They jumped the age scale a bit here too... Only to go backwards later on... 😑
Annnnnd, here they are once again!

Now I'm not sure how, or why I sent them back a few years in age, but I don't think I was really thinking about that at the time when I drew them. All I know is I had more guts back then. I think I was only one year younger than I am now- Seventeen.
On the right is Alex in his Kitsune form, but he looks very nervous for some reason.. Maybe he was told off by Zoe. (another important character in the story, you can see a bit of her in the corner there.
On the left is Devo, obviously. He's looking young as well, but a lot more serious than before.
He has a smoky thing going on with his hand too, but now that I'm looking at it again: it looks more like black fire.. Not exactly what I was going for.
Oh well.
I started working more on hair than usual. It is also when the birth of his crescent moon on the top of his head where his parting would normally be, but I didn't really notice that people have partings enough to add them to my characters.
And now! The part you've all been waiting for: THE FINISHED PROJECT! (Tiny celebration... yay, confetti)
TADA! This is the finished Devo and Alex! Finally at their full potential! Obviously, there's always room for improvement, but for now I think they're well done, and how they look now. It took a long time to figure out my style of drawing, and I think I've pretty much figured it out.
Alex doesn't wear a cap at all now, and Devo looks more sad than ever! The Light, and Darkness.
There is something I did notice when looking over these fella's last night and that was they kept their original clothing all through the years. I couldn't stray from how they always looked in my head. This is them, and I love them to absolute bits! I adore writing about them, and I adore writing their interactions. Over the years, they have become practically brothers.
They worry about each other, protect each other no matter the cost. They will always pick up the pieces if one of them breaks down. Now of course they argue, but that's what best friends do...
It's what brothers do.

Thank you for reading! I might talk about them more. Who am I kidding, I probably will!
Ba bye! 😄
Love this so much! You're intriguing and made me giggle too! (Yay confetti 😅)
